“For the first time in the history of our company we were able not only to develop a comprehensive strategic plan but with the help of BTL staying right by our side, achieve our goals”

Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is a proactive approach to the future. Each year the chief executive should step back and ask themselves where do I want this business to be three years from now and then put together a plan to make that happen. This planning process can take from 1-4 days depending on the size of the business and number of business units.

Strategic planning starts with developing a business description which describes what business your in, what products and services you provide and don’t provide. The business description also describes your target customers and identifies the problems that you solve for those target customers.

Next, a mission statement is developed. This should be a short statement that is inspiring, a mission that each of your employees can remember and use. This mission gives the employee a reason to come to work other than picking up a paycheck.

The heart of the plan is the vision. This is a clear, concise picture of what the company will look like three years in the future.

Values are an integral part of the plan because they help guide the process and help tell everyone what we will do and won’t do for money.

Four analyses are completed which help fill in the plan. An Industry Analysis tells us what is happening inside of the industry that will affect the way we do business in the future. A Vision Gap Analysis tells us the gaps from where we are and where we want to be three years in the future. An External Analysis tells us what is happening outside of the industry that will affect the way we do business going forward. Last is the Internal Analysis which tells us our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

After gathering the information from the analyses a set of Key Success Factors are identified. Next, goals for the first year of the vision are established. Then an action plan is developed with accountabilities, people responsible for the action, then dates and monitoring are identified to ensure the plan is implemented.

Since 90% of strategic plans are never implemented we stay with you throughout the year to ensure that your goals are achieved. Implementation of your strategic plan is our highest priority.
